Garlic planted for next season

I have just finished planting next year's garlic crop. I use a variety called Picardy Wight because it is well suited to Cariff's climate. It may seem odd to plant the cloves in December but the young plants are very hardy and withstand snow and frost. Five bulbs gave me 75 cloves which was just enough for the bed in the photo above.

After digging and raking the bed I planted the individual cloves root down one inch deep and six inches apart. There is nothing else to do until early spring when I will start weeding and I will scatter some chicken manure once the allotment shop has opened.
